If you meet the following criteria, you can become a sponsor:

• Are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident in Canada, of 18 years of age and above
• If you are a Canadian citizen residing outside Canada, you must be willing to relocate to Canada to sponsor a family member
• If a resident of Quebec, you may be eligible to meet Quebec’s sponsorship program

Also to note that the person sponsoring should have the availability of sufficient funds to show that the family (Spouse or dependent child) can be provided basic needs. 

The person who can be sponsored is Dependent Child, Spouse, Common-Law Partner, or Conjugal Partner.
